The inherent properties of PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) give rise to the unique advantages of demister wires, setting them apart from demisting elements made of materials such as metal or conventional plastics:
Ultimate corrosion resistance: It can withstand strong acids (such as sulfuric acid and hydrochloric acid), strong bases (such as sodium hydroxide), powerful oxidizing agents (like potassium permanganate), and most organic solvents, while remaining stable across a temperature range of -200°C to 260°C—making it the "standard equipment" for highly corrosive operating conditions.
Low surface energy and non-stick properties: PTFE has an extremely low surface tension, making it difficult for liquid droplets to adhere to the demisting wires. Instead, they can automatically drip off—either by gravity or airflow—preventing "clogging failures" while also reducing the frequency of cleaning.
High Strength and Flexibility: The molded PTFE demister wire combines robust mechanical strength (resistant to airflow impact) with exceptional flexibility (allowing it to be custom-shaped according to equipment dimensions, such as rings or spirals), making it highly resistant to breakage.
Hygienic-grade features: Compliant with FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) food-contact standards, and the PTFE material is free of leachables, making it suitable for high-purity applications in industries such as pharmaceuticals and food processing—including tasks like evaporative defoaming of pharmaceutical solutions and concentration defoaming of fruit juices.
